The Probation Department is always working for Westchester County.  Here are some interesting facts:

  • There are 158 probation officers.
  • There are 25 supervising probation officers.
  • Approximately 50 percent of the department is bilingual in English andSpanish.
  • There are 48 instructors within the department who are disciplined in general topics, weapons, etc.
  • Of the 20 firearms instructors in the department, 11 were trained by the FBI.
  • The department has two of the five master instructors in the New York State Probation department system and they are certified by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
  • The Bureau of Planning and Development is responsible for trainings all units including the specialized units of domestic violence, mental health, young offenders, sex offenders, DWI, warrants and family court.
  • All sworn probation staff must attain 21 hours of training annually, as mandated by New York state.
  • Two supervising probation officers were selected and completed the Intensive Leadership Institute sponsored by the American Probation and Parole Association.
  • Probation has conducted interdepartmental trainings with the county's Department of Corrections and Public Safety.
  • All of our mandatory trainings are opened to other municipalities and county agencies (when applicable), if space is available.
