The Direct Treatment Alternative to Incarceration Program (DTATI) provides the criminal courts with recommendations for alternatives to incarceration for individuals charged with or convicted of felony offenses and/ or probationers who have a drug or alcohol abuse problem. The program links intensive all-day treatment services with specialized on-site probation supervision to ensure that clients are engaged in a meaningful and highly structured treatment program that maintains credibility with the courts and the criminal justice system.
There are currently six DTATI sites in Westchester:
- Greenburgh located at 30 Manhattan Avenue, White Plains, NY 10607 operated by St. John’s Riverside Hospital – Greenburgh ATS
- Mount Kisco located at 24 Smith Avenue, Mount Kisco, NY 10549 operated by Lexington Center for Recovery
- Mount Vernon located at 20 East 1st Street, Mount Vernon, NY 10550 operated by St. John’s Riverside Hospital – Archway
- New Rochelle located at 3 Cottage Place, New Rochelle, NY 10801 operated by Lexington Center for Recovery
- Ossining located at 22 Rockledge Avenue, Ossining, NY 10562 operated by Phelps Memorial Hospital Center.
- Yonkers site located at 2 Park Ave. Yonkers, NY 10703 operated by St. John’s Riverside Hospital – New Focus
The DTATI Program utilizes our partners’ outpatient programs, where length of stay is tailored to the individual’s needs. Patients who meet criteria for treatment are recommended for clinic services (English and Spanish speaking available), outpatient rehabilitation, or inpatient detox service. The program is based on a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team approach designed to include modalities shown to be effective with addiction. Medical, psychiatric and social needs are addressed, and substance use treatment focuses on relapse prevention, harm reduction and recovery planning. The following services/groups are offered (curriculum varies):
- Medication Assisted Treatment Services (MATS)
- Psychiatric evaluation and Co-Occurring Disorder treatment
- Overdose Prevention / NARCAN training
- Smoking/Nicotine Dependency Treatment (including Nicotine Replacement Therapy – NRT) and smoking cessation
- Process and psycho-educational groups
- Educational workshops – health/wellness, symptom management, drug education, etc.
- Self-help groups (NA, AA)
- Self-select groups are as followed: Leisure Activities, Coping with Anger, Creative Art, Living Sober, Music Therapy, Spirituality, Mindfulness
- Co-Occurring Disorder treatment focused groups
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) group
- Seeking Safety
- Life Skills Development
- Relapse Prevention Skills Training
The program operates five and a half days a week. There is also an evening clinic program offered to individuals transitioning to a less intensive program component. It is important to note that the five probation officers assigned to the DTATI Program are housed at the treatment sites and work closely with the treatment team. These officers play a vital role in collaborating with treatment staff in preparing and monitoring the treatment plan as well as other mandated conditions.
